The Studio High Definition Dr. Dre Headphones are one of the best headphones I have ever owned, period. Firstly after purchasing these headphones the quality of packaging you get is just stunning, the packaging of these headphones is really top notch and you know from the moment you see it that it’s going to be a quality product. After opening the box and first glancing at these headphones you first notice that they are very stylish and smart, I was surprised at how good they looked and they are very pleasing on the eye, a stunning modern stylish design. They don’t look cheap they look exactly like the price suggests. Surprisingly light-weight but also very sturdy, you would think that they were fragile but I would say that the build quality is so good you will find them lasting for quite a while, much longer than other headphones that I have had in the past.

The headphones come with a few accessories. They come with two connectivity cables, for mp3 players, iPhone etc. A 1/8 – 1/4” Adapter, AEGIS Microbe cleaning cloth and a Tour Case. The Tour Case is the perfect foil for these headphones, they are very protective and are perfect for keeping the headphones safe in particular while traveling. They also can carry batteries that the headphones require, the headphones also provide 2x AAA batteries to get you started. From my experience the battery life is quite good, I have gone over 150 hours without needing to change them. I can also carry spare batteries in the case, in case the one's I am using run out.

The Studio High Definition Dr. Dre Headphones are very comfortable. Surprisingly after putting them on the noise cancellation was at a great standard, it puts you in your own world. Even after hours of use I still found them comfortable and did not once have the urge to take them off, I love them in particular on cold days because they also keep your ears warm. The headphones also have a mute button on the side, so if you need to quickly cut the sound while someone talks to you it makes it much easier than muting on your mp3 player if it’s in your pocket, great for convenience.

The sound quality is what makes these headphones ideal for any music lover, I heard things in songs that I have not noticed or heard before because the quality of these headphones really is second to none. A little problem you may find is that the sound enclosure is not the best when at higher volumes, we noticed that if you turn your sound device up to the higher volumes it would become incredibly easy for someone outside to hear what you were listening to, but turning the volume to around 50% seemed to help the fact and make it much less of an issue. The music engulfs you when you listen using these headphones, the combination of the amazing quality of music and the noise cancellation really is superb. Most headphones cannot portray every beat and note like these can, just like the music producer Dr Dre and other artists intended. You will hear things that you have probably missed in music until you use these headphones, these fit the bill perfectly. I was really blown away by the sound quality of these headphones, I had even tried them for gaming and movies and they really compared with my gaming headset, If you are a gaming fan and love the Call of Duty series, try them, the sound quality and 3d portrayal of the gaming sounds is simply awesome.

These headphones have a high price point but are without a doubt worth it because of the build and sound quality, they are simply one of the best headphones I have or many of my friends have used or heard for a long time. Once taken out of the box the first thing you notice is the design, it has a stylish outlook with a nice glossy, polished type of finish. Like all Dre headphones a lot of work goes into the design of the products, this really shows. The headphones seem fairly sturdy, ear-muffs on the headphones feel nice and comfortable when placed on your ears. Due to the fact these headphones place on your ears and don’t cover your whole ear they don’t seem to cancel out as much noise as the Studio headphones. That doesn’t mean they don’t cancel any noise because they do, just not as much as the Studio might due to the design of the headphones. Overall we quite like the design, it’s not too big or bulky, and they have a nice feel to them.

Moving on to sound quality, the first thing you think about when associating with Dr. Dre is bass. The bass on the Solo HD sounds pretty good, it’s very crisp and doesn’t over-power the rest of the music or the vocals. The sound in general is really good, we’ve tested them with some hip hop/rock and a few other genres. Once the music was turned up loud it stayed nice and clear, it didn’t distort at all and everything still sounded fine. Overall the sound quality was impressive, the bass wasn’t over-powering there was a considerable amount of bass which was nice quality. Onto ControlTalk, this features a microphone which will allow you to make hands free calls. The call quality was good and people on the other end reported that it was nice and clear. Your cable also features a little remote. This means you can change the volume, pause and skip tracks from your headphone cable. Overall ControlTalk features cutting edge technology and adds a new dimension to the Solo HD beats, a great addition to the headphones.

Time for the negatives, now we don’t like being negative about anything but we want to give you a fair review and that means listing the cons as well as the pros. First of all, comfort. Yes the headphones were comfortable for me and my team but they might not be as comfortable for everyone else. Another thing we noticed was a small amount of sound leaking, now this wasn’t anything major it was only a small amount however we still noticed it. We believe it is down to the design as the ear pieces are designed to rest on your ears and not cover them. This results in a small amount of sound leaking from the headphones. We don’t see this as big problem, you just might need to be a little careful with volume if you are on a bus or train for example.

Dr. Dre Solo HD Beats headphones are a quality piece of kit, they pump out great sounds with a good amount of base. They could be a little bit sturdier but the design and style of them makes up for it. ControlTalk adds a nice touch to the headphones and makes them stand out from the rest. The In-Ear Tour Dr. Dre Headphones have a tangle free patent, which is very impressive, it’s usually a big pain with headphones, in particular in ear headphones on issues of getting tangled but these headphones deal with that issue quite easily. I am not so keen on in-ear headphones usually but these were a breath of fresh air. The different sizes that came with the headphones were great because after a bit of playing around and trying to get the perfect match the headphones really were extremely comfortable, even after the few hours i had them on. A small gripe with these headphones is the collar clip that is provided with them, it adds a little bit of weight to the wire and when first using the headphones adds a bit of extra weight making the headphones fall out easily, it was a bit of a nuisance at first but after using the headphones for a good few minutes you learn to adjust and deal with it and then it becomes fine and much less of an issue. I had them in for a good few hours and didn’t really have any problems.

The sound quality of these headphones is of a very high standard, I was very impressed. You will need to play around with the ear buds because you really need to get a perfect fit before you get the full effect of these headphones, they need to be in perfectly. It’s all about finding that sweet spot. We tried the headphones at all different types of frequencies and the bass was tremendous quality. The noise cancellation is up to a high standard and drowned outside sound quite well. The sound leakage is only really apparent at very high volumes, near max I would estimate. The sound leakage is minimal when having them at an average volume. When Dr Dre mentioned while promoting his headphones that these Monster Beats range allow you to hear the music the way it was meant to be, he was not joking the sound quality really is tremendous and far superior than most if not all in ear headphones I have ever used.

Love music? Then you will love these headphones. Just like the other Beats range these headphones are second to none. They are so much better than standard headphones there is no comparison, they are in a different league. Awesome sound quality, great looks and a great design.
